Steps to Becoming a Certified Teacher

Now that you're Hired

  • You must teach, full time, for a minimum of one year under the state's probationary certification. This is referred to as the Internship.
  • Your Probationary Certification / Internship may lead to a Standard Certification upon completion of one year of teaching.(Hint: Your goal is to get this Standard Certification in one year!)
  • You must fulfill the following requirements during your one year internship in order to receive your Standard Certification at the end of that year:
    • Notify Texas Teachers immediately of your employment
    • Complete all paperwork with Texas Teachers
    • Apply for your Probationary Certification by your first day of teaching
    • Study, register and take the PPR Test
    • Complete all Texas Teachers training
    • Work with a professional coach
    • Pay in full to Texas Teachers through monthly payroll deductions
